Just before the xmas holidays did the Farm Bill 2018 got signed at the White House to change the course of hemp in the United States forever. The main aspect of the bill is that the Farm Bill provides critical funding for the United States Department of Agriculture and provides support, certainty, and stability to our Nation’s farmers, it also opens the door for industrial hemp and cbd production.
"We have been working every day to deliver for America’s farmers just as they work every single day to deliver for us."
President Donald J. Trump
This means in detail that the State legislatures have taken action to establish state licensed industrial hemp programs. Which created the oppurtunity for Farmers to grow hemp as an agricultural commodity. Several products can be made out of hemp and be introducd into the market, including fibers, construction and insulation materials, textiles, cosmetic products, animal feed, food, beverages and drugs.
According to FDA hemp is defind as cannabis sative plant with a THC concentration of not more than 0.3 percent. Several states have already passed industrial hemp legislations for research or pilot programs. Colorado granted 2014 a Research Program for state universities to research and develop hemp strains that are best suited for industrial applications and develop new seed strains. While Kentucky and North Caroline granted research into biofuel and oil. These three states adopted early hemp into agricultural programs and leading the US industrial hemp market today.
With the new Farm Bill more states will open the the door for research grants and pilot programs into hemp. Most states will create a legal application forms applications for a License to grow hemp. We can expect several new hemp products being released into the consumer market this year. Specially CBD products for health and cancer treatments are awaited by many people. Lots of people believe that the Farm Bill was a first step to legalize all forms of cannabis sative on a Federal level.
