CBD Balms, Salves and Roll-Ons

Updated: Jan 22

Balms, Salves & Roll-Ons Applied Directly to Pain

Over the last several months I've used many different brands that offer balms and roll-ons, and I was presently surprised at their effectiveness, but definitely have an opinion about which ones I like best for particular conditions. Here's what I found for pulled muscles:

There's straight-up CBD products using carrier oils like hemp oil or coconut oil with nothing else added, then there are products that add other ingredients to enhance the effects, and offer a pleasant scent. When I pulled a muscle in my back, which invited my neck muscle to the pain-party, I turned directly to the Ice Balm offered by The Light Hearted Farmer. With Ingredients like: Sweet Almond Oil, Shea Butter, Beeswax, Peppermint, Mullein, Chamomile, Meadowsweet, Lavender, Lemon Balm, Chickweed, Hemp Extract, Peppermint Essential Oil, Wintergreen Essential Oil, Eucalyptus Essential Oil, and Vitamin E, it was exactly what I wanted to cause the inflammation to go down and get some much needed relaxation. I was desperate for my muscle to let go of it's determined grip that was not allowing me to turn my head, nor let me sleep comfortably at night.

My partner massaged the ice balm into my back first, then applied it to my neck. The entire massage was about 10 minutes, and though I love my partner, it was definitely an amateur massage. I immediately felt the relief come to my muscles and I felt 50% better (pain level 7 to a pain level 4) after 10 minutes of massage.

Now that it was easier to think, I took 5 ml (half dropper) from a 600 mg tincture of CBD (hemp) oil under the tongue and held it there for the suggested 60 seconds, then swallowed. I went to bed, and awoke free of the constriction of not being able to turn my neck, and the pain was gone. A huge relief, especially since I've experienced this muscle pull before and consider it pure and utter torture to live with.

The main reason I pull my back muscle is new exercises I'm doing, and I pile on a healthy dose of stress. What's interesting about CBD is that it touches on both my perceived stress AND the pain caused by my pulled muscles. Aspirin and acetaminophen and ibuprofen cannot touch the very palpable stress I have, and free me from the muscle strain. More so, I still KNOW I have muscle tension when I take over-the-counter medication; I still know there's tension and many times still feel the pain, it's just lessened a bit so I can reach the level of tolerably-painful. With the combination of the balm massage and the dose of hemp oil with about 25 mg of CBD I was entirely pain free and ready to exercise again.
