FDA takes charge of Hemp

The Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 was signed into law on Dec. 18th. Among other things, this new law changes certain federal authorities relating to the production and marketing of hemp

Just moments after President Trump signed the

FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D. release a statement of the new role of the FDA for regulating hemp and cannabis products.

“We’re aware of the growing public interest in cannabis and cannabis-derived products, including cannabidiol (CBD). This increasing public interest in these products makes it even more important with the passage of this law for the FDA to clarify its regulatory authority over these products..”
